Close Up Photographer of the Year 7

I am so pleased to learn that one of my images has been shortlisted for the Close Up Photographer of the Year competition. This was the caption I included with my submission:
Whilst out for a walk I crossed a small bridge over a shallow pool. The water was moving across the autumn leaves lying just under the water’s surface. I was drawn to all the lines in the ripples which I thought made the scene look a little like stained glass. I also loved all the different colours in the leaves from the bright oranges to the dull, deep browns. There was a little bit of blue sky reflecting in the water which added an extra colour to the scene. In post production I wanted to bring out the colours of the scene and the patterns in the water.

Another image from my local woods. Most of the woods near where I live are managed plantations, full of huge, tall conifer trees. In between the evergreens there are a few deciduous trees including some beautiful old beech trees and lots of small saplings trying to grow amongst the giants. I love this little beech sapling with its curved trunk and I hope it will be allowed to grow big and tall.

One last image from the Cotswold Lavender Farm for the moment. It has been a fab summer for butterflies, I’ve seen more varieties than I’ve seen for many a year. There were so many bugs of all shapes and sizes enjoying the lavender, they didn’t sit still for long though!
Standing tall
I love cornflowers, the blue is just so beautiful and I can never resist a flower that puts its head up above all the rest!
Meadow Brown Butterfly
Another picture from Cotswold Lavender taken at the weekend in the flower meadow. One of the things I love about meadows is the huge variety of butterflies, bees and other insects, although catching them with my camera wasn’t always easy!
