Crocus time!
One of the challenges I like about flower photography is trying each year to create different images of the same flowers. Here’s four images of crocuses, taken and processed in four different years.

Outdoor Photography Magazine April 2026
I was super pleased to hear that an image I submitted to Outdoor Photography Magazine’s ‘One Thing This Month’ feature was chosen to be in the April 2026 edition. The image was taken last year in the Alps. This was the caption I wrote to go with the image:
My favourite days to photograph in the Alps in the winter are those that start really foggy but then very suddenly the clouds start to break up and the sun shines through low clouds illuminating crisp snow.

Here’s a second set of pictures from my walk the other morning. Later on in my walk I found a bit more colour, the gorse looks beautifully bright on a grey day and the green leaves are appearing slowly. |

Not quite spring yet!

In some ways it feels like spring is here, as the days get longer and warmer and the flowers start opening up. On the other hand, we’ve had some grey days and the wind has still got a bit of a cold edge. These pictures were taken a couple of days ago in the morning when it definitely still felt more like winter than spring but it was still very beautiful with lots of things to photograph. |

Snowdrops
Well, it suddenly feels like spring has arrived and thoughts of snow are, for most people, behind us so on to spring flowers! Snowdrops are, to me, the first spring flowers even though some appear before Christmas. I’m looking forward to some dry days to get out and about with my camera to photograph the flowers as they appear.
